Sleeve Buttons

The cuffs of men's shirts and women's shifts could be closed with a simple thread or dorset button, tied with a piece of tape (this mostly for the lower sorts), or held together with sleeve buttons. Unlike cufflinks, a sleeve button was a set of two buttons, joined with a metal link or a linen threads, so that they lay flat, side by side. They could be simple buttons, or made with gold and jewels for the upper members of society. Buttons that were other than round (hexagonal, oval, etc.) were probably originally used for sleeve buttons rather than on outer garments.

Below is a selection of sleeve buttons we normally keep in stock. From top down, Pin shank shell, plain brass, patterned gold, patterned grey, and German silver.
